South Bay Children’s Health Center was founded 75 years ago in response to public outcry for health services for local kids. In 1947, when they began, citizens were getting back on their feet post-war. There wasn't public health insurance yet and health insurance for those who had jobs was just beginning. When the Center began in 1947, it offered dental services and later added well-baby, vision, hearing and mental health. Today the SBCHC provides dental and clinic based mental health services to primarily low-income families and offer short term counseling services delivered by licensed therapists to local schools not based on income, but based on school need. The center has been in Hermosa Beach for several years and are back there again, and hoping to raise awareness of what is being done in the schools as well as raise funds. About the Speaker: Lisa Daggett-Cummings has devoted her career to empowering individuals, instilling self-sufficiency, and fostering their well-being. She has extensive experience in fund development and marketing, working for emerging nonprofit organizations that cater to children's health, education, and social services. |
